The importance of equity investment
Since the Second World War investment in quoted equities, in the widest sense of this term, has played a vital part in generating wealth for society as a whole. The role of private investors both directly as shareholders, and indirectly through pension funds and other savings vehicles, has been a fundamental factor in financing industry. This has been achieved through the provision of early stage capital and also through the provision of equity funds to help in the expansion of established businesses.
